Most victims of domestic violence are women but not all. A man who says his baby's mother hit him with a hot frying pan showed up this week at Monroe County Family Court seeking an order of protection. A father who says he's afraid of the drug-addicted son living at his house wanted one. And thanks to a 2008 change in the law allowing dating service couples, same-sex couples and teenagers to file civil protection orders, a woman who says her ex-girlfriend hit her and threatened to burn down her house sought a protection order. The change expanding access to family courts accounted for 12 percent of all protection orders statewide and boosted the numbers, including in Monroe.

The Bengals will only get better as their confidence grows (as it certainly will this weekend against Cleveland), and for all I know, Pittsburgh could keep sliding further and further into the tank. If there are any further indications of any of those things, Cincy makes the leap. I promise.

Second: Denver Broncos fans may also feel like they're owed an explanation. Here that is: Beat someone decent without some garbage miracle play.

That may have come off a bit harsher than I intended, but there is good news. With each week that passes with another dominating Denver defensive (alliteration, BOO-YAH) performance, the Broncos get closer to the radar. And even though the Cowboys haven't been extremely impressive as of late, they represent an upgrade in competition for the Broncos, and that should be a fun game to watch on Sunday.

Third: I couldn't deny Minnesota any longer. I'm sold on the San Francisco 49ers as a solid team, and thus, I find Minnesota's win over them impressive. At the same time, the Packers have been letting me down with their sieve-like offensive line and disappointing defense. It was not a difficult call; or at least, if it was, it was made that way by the Chicago Bears, not the Packers.
